Realizing there is a mistake in your conversation can be stressful, but facing this problem is much more manageable with the ability to pause contact lists in your Conversica dashboard. When you pause a contact list, it stops leads in that contact list from receiving messages from the Revenue Digital Assistant™, giving you the opportunity to update the conversation and make changes. Additionally, to ensure your updates reflect in your current and future lead conversations, pause the contact list first.
When you need to pause a contact list, there is no need to send a support ticket. Pausing contact lists directly from the dashboard allows you to make edits and fix mistakes easily, saving time and stress. Any current leads your Assistant is working on will also have these updates implemented.
For additional information about managing your contact lists, please read the Managing Contact Lists Article.
Contact List Statuses:
Active | The contact list is active and leads will be automatically added to Conversica and messaged. Conversica will only message leads when the contact list is activated. Additionally, leads added within 24 hours of activation will be messaged. |
Paused |
The contact list is on hold, or paused. Leads will not be messaged until the status is changed back to active. |
Inactive | Conversica will not work new leads if the contact list is inactive. |
Examples of When to Pause a Contact List:
- To correct a typo in the messaging variables.
- To edit the messaging variables to reflect a change in events (e.g. a webinar is rescheduled and you want to update the new date).
- The wrong leads are being messaged on an active contact list (You can pause immediately to stop further errant messages and then use the Bulk Lead Action Feature to deactivate the leads).

Step Two: Editing the Conversation Variables
While the contact list is Paused, you can edit the conversation variables to make changes or fix any mistakes to update future messages.
Updating Current Messaging Options
The Update Current Messaging checkbox is checked by default. When this box is checked, all leads currently on the contact list will receive the updated variables.
When the box is unchecked, only new leads added to the contact list will receive the updated variables.
Next to the Update Current Messaging checkbox, you can see how many leads currently on the contact list will be messaged with the updated variables when the contact list is reactivated.
After you have completed the edits, click Save Changes.
Once changes have been made, you can unpause the contact list by reactivating it.
Step Three: Reactivating a Paused Contact List
Once you have made your desired edits or changes, you can unpause the contact list and reactivate it to resume messaging.
- Click on the Status dropdown to open your options.
2. Select Active.
3. A pop up will appear in the window. Click Activate to confirm your request. Once the contact list is activated, messaging for the “Paused” leads will resume.

FAQ:
Q: Who can pause a contact list ?
A: In order for a user to be able to pause a contact list, they must have the Conversation Editor > Edit permission enabled. For information on permissions and how to get permissions to the Conversation Editor, please read this article.
Q: What is the value in pausing a contact list before making changes to the conversation variables?
A: When you edit conversation variables without pausing the contact list first, the changes you save will only go into effect when new contacts are added to the conversation. To ensure contacts currently being messaged in the conversation receive the changes you made, you must first pause, make the edits and save.
Q: Can I still send a case to Conversica Support for help with a contact list?
A: If you encounter any errors with a contact list you should always pause the list first. If you are unable to make the necessary changes or need assistance resolving the issue, then reach out to Support. Pausing the contact list first is the fastest way to ensure contacts don’t continue to receive messages from the active conversation.
Q: With this tool, can I keep reusing the same contact list, by changing variables, instead of creating a new contact list each time?
A: No, it is important to continue to create a new contact list any time you are uploading contacts related to a different event, time period, etc. This allows you to better track the reporting for each contact list as well as the conversation as a whole.
Q: Is there a time limit for how long can a list be paused?
A: Lists can be paused indefinitely. After any amount of time, leads will be messaged if you decided to un-pause a list.
